The Alliance believes that improving the sustainability of members’ own supply chain operations is essential if the Alliance is to successfully promote standards for other electric utilities and suppliers to the industry.  The Alliance has established the EUISSCA Energy Use Index Reporting Guidelines to establish a consistent framework for measuring and reporting its progress. Supply chain operations refers to the processes owned by the supply chain organizations in our member companies. Generally, these processes include sourcing, inventory management, warehousing and materials management, transportation and logistics, and materials recovery.

The Alliance will focus on improving the energy efficiency of its supply chain operations as the highest-priority means of reducing GHG emissions in supply chain operations. Energy use in supply chain operations is concentrated in three areas:

  1. The supply chain distribution network
  2. Facility lighting and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning
  3. Supply chain transportation and logistics

2008 Baseline Energy Use:             2,899,391 mmBTU I (View Graph of Data)

Purchased Electricity:           862,892 mmBTU     (29.8% of total)

Fuel Use:                            2,036,498 mmBTU  (70.2% of total)

2009 Annual Energy Use:                2,757,482 mmBTU (View Graph of Data)

Purchased Electricity:             843,016 mmBTU     (30.6% of total)

Fuel Use:                             1,914,466 mmBTU   (69.4% of total)

The Alliance reduced supply chain operations energy use by 5% from 2008 through 2009.

The Alliance will publish its annual energy use performance and describe the measures that members have taken to reduce their energy use and GHG emissions in Q3 of the following year.

The Alliance will compile and publicize the voluntary standards for improving the energy efficiency of supply chain operations as they are developed. The Alliance will also encourage the adoption of these voluntary standards across the industry to promote and facilitate improved energy efficiency in supply chain operations by other electric utilities.
