Summary
This document has been developed by the Alliance to support utilities and their suppliers with identifying sustainable practices in the area of wood-pole purchasing, management and disposal/reuse. It is based on research conducted between 2010 and 2013 including a detailed report by the Green Supplier and input from member and supplier experiences.
The document is made up of two parts. The first Җ this section provides a brief overview of the high-level sustainability practices in the area of wood-pole purchasing, management and disposal/reuse. The second , accessed via the links in the tables, provide (where available) more detailed practices; details on specific practices; information on implementation costs, timing, strategies lessons learned or resources.
The Alliance encourages the adoption of these practices throughout the value chain on a voluntary basis, recognizing that individual suppliers and members will not be able to adopt all ֖ or at times, any of these practices. Through anonymous member and supplier surveys, the Alliance will measure the adoption of these practices and evaluate whether to revisit the recommendations.
Ideally, utilities should review the suggested list of practices, identify gaps in their current activities and look to address them, starting with the guidance available in the additional detail. Note the effort and impact-ranking should be used only as directional guidance with each utility considering these based on their own situation, maturity and opportunities.
The Alliance will be continually expanding on the practices and details in this document based on our member and non-member utilities experiences and suppliers. The Alliance welcomes and invites feedback and additional insights, which will be used to improve and add to the, list of practices and guidance in the detailed tables in this document. Please contact us directly at [email protected].
