The Alliance plan for addressing Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions is through:

  • Energy consumption reduction (a key driver of GHG emissions) of supply chain operations of electric utilities.
  • Products and services sourced by electric utilities – Poles LCA analysis (Wire and Cable LCA will be available in Q3 of 2011); and
  • Educate and encourage our suppliers to reduce their GHG emissions.

GHG emissions and energy consumption reduction goals are:

  • By year 2015, Alliance members will reduce aggregate supply chain operations energy use by 10% from a 2008 baseline.
  • By the end of 2012, a majority of the participating surveyed suppliers of Alliance members will measure[1] GHG emissions and will have established voluntary GHG emission reduction goals.

[1] Measurement of GHG emissions may be accomplished by direct measurement- based methodology (technology such as continuous emissions monitoring systems) and calculation-based methodology (documented emission factors, mass balance, extrapolation, interpolation or reasonable engineering judgment).

Additional goal information:

The Electric Utility Industry Sustainable Supply Chain Alliance will be launching a program this spring to engage a pilot group of suppliers in developing greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals. Through the program, participating suppliers will learn about resources that are available for reducing GHG emissions, benefit from the experience of other companies who have established GHG emission reduction goals and have the opportunity to influence the Alliance’s supplier outreach program.  For more information visit Upcoming Events & Registration.
